Description
Neutron and x-ray reflectometry are methods to measure density profiles across surfaces and interfaces with down to atomic resolution. As in small angle scattering small values of momentum transfer are probed. The data are analysed in the framework of continuity theory, using refractive indices to calculate reflection and refraction coefficients. In this lecture the basic principles of the method will be explained together with instrument considerations and data analysis. As outlook experiments addressing lateral correlations by off-specular and grazing incident scattering will be highlighted.
